We are all storytellers.
Every day, without thinking, you do something innately human. You tell stories.
That might be something very simple - such as telling your partner how your day went.
But it might also be complex - describing to a potential client why they need to buy your next great business idea.
Phonogram is designed to help you tell the story that’s important to you in the best way possible.
We leverage decades of experience in the BBC to help you through your next challenge. From professional podcast editing to bespoke media training, from one-on-one coaching to conference hosting, and from lecturing to whatever you need - we use the latest technology and thinking while remaining steadfastly human, personable and indvidual.
With access to audio and video specialists, we build the package for you - the best people, with the highest skill level, for the result you need.

About James:
I have more than twenty years of experience as a BBC radio editor, presenter and newsreader across networks including the BBC World Service, BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio 5 live, managing teams, developing programme formats and dealing with change across the organisation.
I specialised in editing live news programmes to millions of listeners in the UK and worldwide – producing some of the most listened-to programmes in the world while making split-second decisions on editorial issues, managing timings and dealing with high-profile presenters.
I spent three years running the BBC’s live world business radio unit – managing and training a team making programmes from early in the morning until late at night, designing programme formats and being the first port of call for the rest of the BBC when it comes to international business stories.
I’m used to dealing with topics as varied as US politics, sub-Saharan power issues, the business of sport and Asian & European manufacturing, all in one programme; and how to relate them to an international, diverse audience… while trying to stay as relaxed as in the photo here.
When I’m not working, I’m probably watching cricket or drinking coffee or tea.

Testimonials
“James was the first person who really got me hooked on radio. Not only was he was a total wizard on the desk, but more importantly he showed me editorial standards that, over 20 years later, I still apply to the work I do today. I've known him working across everything from business news programmes to new music shows, and he has always been editorially and technically a cut above most.
If you care about editorial excellence, craft and getting the details right, James is your man. And he’s been that good for as long as I’ve known him.”
-Matt Wareham - award-winning video & audio producer & Founder, Depictar, UK“James is a seasoned professional who was always a pleasure to work with. He knows the industry inside out and anyone trained by him would be in a very safe pair of hands.”
— Sarah Forster, Director, Mayfair Media, UAE“James is a classic all-rounder. Not only does he have whip-smart editorial judgment, he can write without the waffle, and broadcast like the best of ‘em. He also knows his way around a waveform and is able to edit with creativity and speed.
Above all, however, he’s just a joy to work with. He’s conscientious and even (don’t tell him I said this) entertaining. I liked being around him so much that I now do it out of choice.”
